About
A practice built around anxiety and the life stages that shape women's mental health.
I'm Beatriz Theophilo Martineau, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), providing individual psychotherapy to teens and adult women in person in Ottawa and virtually.
Why this focus
Anxiety rarely exists on its own. In my work, it's often tangled up with something bigger — a pregnancy, the adjustment to postpartum life, a shift in a relationship, a change in the body, or the transition into perimenopause and menopause. (Fertility-related concerns can come up here too, though it's an area I'm still building depth in.)
That's why my practice concentrates on anxiety and on women's mental and sexual health across the reproductive and hormonal lifespan. Rather than treating every presenting concern, I've chosen to go deeper on the experiences that tend to show up together for the women and teens I work with.
Some clients come to therapy because anxiety or intrusive thoughts have become hard to manage on their own. Others are navigating changes in their body, sexuality, relationships, or sense of identity. These experiences frequently overlap, and therapy can be a space to understand those connections without reducing your experience to a single symptom or diagnosis.

Approach
How therapy works, in practice
Structured, but not rigid
My approach is structured enough to help you notice patterns and make meaningful changes, while remaining flexible enough to recognize that every client's story is different.
Grounded in CBT
Sessions are primarily built on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused strategies and person-centred therapy woven in as needed.
Trauma-informed
Therapy emphasizes emotional safety, collaboration, choice, and respect for each client's own experiences and boundaries, from the first session onward.
A note on scope
My practice has a particular clinical focus on anxiety and women's mental and sexual health — including pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, sexuality, body image, relationships, perimenopause and menopause. Where a concern falls outside that focus, I'm glad to talk it through with you and, where helpful, point you toward other resources.
